Brackets from different writing systems
Japanese and Chinese text uses its own brackets: 「 」 work like quotation marks, 『 』 mark titles or quotes within quotes, and 【 】 often highlight headings, tags or announcements. Guillemets « » serve as quotation marks in French, Russian and many other languages, while 《 》 mark book titles in Chinese. Each has an opening and closing half, so copy both.
Decorative and technical uses
Ornate brackets like ❰ ❱ and ⦗ ⦘ are popular for gaming clan tags, stream titles and stylish bios, for example 【Live】 or ❮ News ❯. In maths and computer science, ⟨ ⟩ marks inner products or sequences, ⟦ ⟧ denotes semantic brackets and ⌈ ⌉ ⌊ ⌋ stand for ceiling and floor functions. Whatever the purpose, matching pairs keep text easy to read.
