Highlights include 🫫 cracking face, 🫝 pickle, 🛙 lighthouse and 🪋 meteor, along with 🫹 leftwards thumb sign and its rightwards partner, which come with skin tone options. Because the release is so recent, most phones and computers need a system update before they can display these emojis; until then you may see empty boxes or question marks instead.

Emoji 17.0 details →

Emoji 17.0 added a small batch of new emojis together with a large number of new skin tone variations. Newcomers include 🫪 distorted face, 🫯 fight cloud, 🫈 hairy creature, 🫍 orca and 🪎 treasure chest, plus a ballet dancer, a trombone and a landslide. It is a recent release, so you need an up-to-date phone or computer to see these emojis; older systems will show blank squares.

How to get the new emojis on your phone

New emojis need artwork from your phone or computer maker, so they arrive with system updates rather than app updates. Apple usually ships them in a spring iOS update, Google adds them to Android and Gmail, and Samsung, Microsoft and others follow on their own schedules. Until then you can still copy them here – the person you send them to will see them as soon as their device supports them.
