Writing chess in text
Each chess piece has its own character: ♔ king, ♕ queen, ♖ rook, ♗ bishop, ♘ knight and ♙ pawn, with filled versions from ♚ to ♟ for the opposing side. Chess writers use them in figurine notation, replacing letters with pictures, so a move like Nf3 becomes ♘f3. They are also handy for sharing puzzles or describing a position in a chat.
Suits, dice and cards
The card suits ♠ ♥ ♦ ♣ appear in bridge columns, poker notes and casino-themed designs, and the outlined versions ♤ ♡ ♢ ♧ give a lighter look. Dice faces ⚀ to ⚅ are perfect for tabletop game write-ups. The individual playing cards come from a newer Unicode block, so they may look small or be missing on older devices.
