What does ๐ฌ๐ธ South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands Flag mean?
A blue ensign with the Union Jack and a coat of arms showing a lion holding a torch, flanked by a fur seal and a macaroni penguin, with a reindeer above. These remote sub-Antarctic islands, a British Overseas Territory also claimed by Argentina, have no permanent residents. The emoji appears in expedition cruise posts, Shackleton history and photos of huge king penguin colonies.
Technically, ๐ฌ๐ธ is not a single character: it is the pair of regional indicator letters ๐ฌ ๐ธ, which spell the region code GS. Apps that support flags combine the two letters into a flag; Windows does not draw country flags, so on Windows you see the letters GS instead โ the emoji still arrives as a flag on the recipientโs phone.
๐ฌ๐ธ South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands Flag is an emoji from the Flags category (country flags), added in Emoji 2.0 in 2015.
