What does 🇧🇱 St. Barthélemy Flag mean?
Officially, St. Barthélemy flies the French tricolour, since the island is an overseas collectivity of France. A locally used white flag carries its coat of arms, with elements recalling its French and Swedish past; the island belonged to Sweden for nearly a century, which is why its capital is called Gustavia. The emoji marks posts about luxury villas, yachts, New Year’s Eve parties and turquoise bays.
Technically, 🇧🇱 is not a single character: it is the pair of regional indicator letters 🇧 🇱, which spell the region code BL. Apps that support flags combine the two letters into a flag; Windows does not draw country flags, so on Windows you see the letters BL instead – the emoji still arrives as a flag on the recipient’s phone.
🇧🇱 St. Barthélemy Flag is an emoji from the Flags category (country flags), added in Emoji 2.0 in 2015.
