What does ๐ง๐ป Bouvet Island Flag mean?
Bouvet Island has no flag of its own and flies Norwayโs: a red field with a white-edged blue Nordic cross. This uninhabited, ice-covered volcanic island in the South Atlantic is a Norwegian dependency and is often called the most remote island on Earth. The emoji mostly appears in geography trivia, chats between map lovers and jokes about getting away from it all.
Technically, ๐ง๐ป is not a single character: it is the pair of regional indicator letters ๐ง ๐ป, which spell the region code BV. Apps that support flags combine the two letters into a flag; Windows does not draw country flags, so on Windows you see the letters BV instead โ the emoji still arrives as a flag on the recipientโs phone.
๐ง๐ป Bouvet Island Flag is an emoji from the Flags category (country flags), added in Emoji 2.0 in 2015.
