What does 🇦🇽 Åland Islands Flag mean?
A blue field carries a yellow Nordic cross with a narrower red cross inside it, blending the blue and yellow of Sweden with the red and yellow of Finland. Åland is an autonomous, Swedish-speaking island region of Finland in the Baltic Sea. Islanders celebrate Autonomy Day on 9 June, and visitors use the flag for ferry crossings, sailing, cycling and summer cottages.
Technically, 🇦🇽 is not a single character: it is the pair of regional indicator letters 🇦 🇽, which spell the region code AX. Apps that support flags combine the two letters into a flag; Windows does not draw country flags, so on Windows you see the letters AX instead – the emoji still arrives as a flag on the recipient’s phone.
🇦🇽 Åland Islands Flag is an emoji from the Flags category (country flags), added in Emoji 2.0 in 2015.
