What does 🇧🇯 Benin Flag mean?
A green vertical band at the hoist sits beside two horizontal bands, yellow above red, in the pan-African colours. Benin celebrates Independence Day on 1 August, and the flag shows up in posts about Cotonou, the historic town of Ouidah, Vodun heritage and its national celebration in January, and the French-speaking diaspora.
Technically, 🇧🇯 is not a single character: it is the pair of regional indicator letters 🇧 🇯, which spell the region code BJ. Apps that support flags combine the two letters into a flag; Windows does not draw country flags, so on Windows you see the letters BJ instead – the emoji still arrives as a flag on the recipient’s phone.
🇧🇯 Benin Flag is an emoji from the Flags category (country flags), added in Emoji 2.0 in 2015.
