What does 🇷🇪 Réunion Flag mean?
As an overseas region of France, Réunion officially uses the French tricolour. A popular local flag known as Lo Mahavéli shows a red triangle evoking the volcano, with yellow rays spreading across a blue sky. The emoji appears in posts about the Piton de la Fournaise volcano, hiking in the Mafate cirque, Creole cuisine and surfing.
Technically, 🇷🇪 is not a single character: it is the pair of regional indicator letters 🇷 🇪, which spell the region code RE. Apps that support flags combine the two letters into a flag; Windows does not draw country flags, so on Windows you see the letters RE instead – the emoji still arrives as a flag on the recipient’s phone.
🇷🇪 Réunion Flag is an emoji from the Flags category (country flags), added in Emoji 2.0 in 2015.
