What does ๐ Tanabata Tree mean?
A bamboo branch hung with colourful paper strips, representing Tanabata, the Japanese Star Festival held around July 7. During the festival people write wishes on strips of paper called tanzaku and tie them to bamboo, inspired by the legend of two lovers, separated by the Milky Way, who may meet only once a year. The emoji is used for the festival, for making wishes, and more loosely for bamboo or summer in Japan.
๐ Tanabata Tree is an emoji from the Activities category (events & celebrations), added in Emoji 0.6 in 2010. People use it in messages about banner, celebration and Japanese.
