What does 🧅 Onion mean?
A brown onion. In the kitchen it is the base of soups, sauces and almost every savory dish, and it is notorious for bringing tears while chopping, so people send it jokingly when something made them cry. Thanks to the line about ogres having layers in the movie Shrek, it is also a playful way to say someone is more complex than they look.
🧅 Onion is an emoji from the Food & Drink category (vegetables), added in Emoji 12.0 in 2019.
