What does ☝️ Index Pointing Up mean?
One index finger raised toward the sky, as when making a point or asking for a moment. It means “one sec”, “just one thing” or the number one, and it can introduce an important correction or a smug “well, actually”. Unlike 👆, which mostly points at something above, ☝️ is about raising a finger to speak, to emphasize a single item or to claim first place.
☝️ Index Pointing Up is an emoji from the People & Body category (hand gestures: single finger), added in Emoji 0.6 in 2010. People use it in messages about finger, hand, point and this.
