What does ๐ง๐ฝ Deaf Person: Medium Skin Tone mean?
๐ง๐ฝ is the Deaf Person emoji (๐ง) with a medium skin tone (๐ฝ, Fitzpatrick type 4) modifier. It means the same as the default yellow version; the skin tone simply lets people represent themselves or the person they are talking about.
Representing deaf and hard-of-hearing people, this person gestures toward their ear. It is used in Deaf community posts, sign language content and accessibility conversations, and by deaf people to represent themselves. Some send it to say they cannot hear or did not catch something, which is fine in context, but using it to mock anyone is not. It comes in five skin tones.
๐ง๐ฝ Deaf Person: Medium Skin Tone is an emoji from the People & Body category (people gesturing), added in Emoji 12.0 in 2019. People use it in messages about accessibility, ear, gesture and hear.
